METALLICA: Official Video Footage Of GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL Concert

METALLICA's official YouTube channel Metallica TV has been updated with fly-on-the-wall footage shot by a MetOnTour.com reporter on June 28 at the Glastobury Festival in Glastonbury, England. The 18-minute clip includes footage of a rehearsal in London on June 26 and performance clips of "Creeping Death" and "The Memory Remains" from the show.

As previously reported, METALLICA took on the haters directly with its headlining set at Glastonbury Festival, following weeks of protests, complaints and even a petition launched over the band's appearance there — the first time a metal act has ever topped the indie-leaning festival bill in 44 years. According to multiple sources, the group's first response to the backlash was selling a T-shirt that read, "Glastallica: Peace, Love & Metal” on the front, with various negative quotes on the back, including the now-famous "They're shite" from alternative act MOGWAI.

Next was a video intro before the band's set, directed by Julien Temple, which featured footage of a British fox hunt that ended with the four members of METALLICA in bear suits shooting the hunters. This was a reference to frontman James Hetfield narrating a TV series about an Alaskan bear hunt that led to the launch of a petition demanding the band's removal from the bill.

For the show itself, the band invited dozens of hardcore fans onstage with them to rock out as the group powered through a 95-minute collection of greatest hits and classics.

Hetfield told the crowd at one point, "We’re very proud to be here and represent the heavier side of music… This is dedicated not only to the crowd but to all the British heavy metal bands that have been dreaming and still dream of playing this stage here."

METALLICA will play festivals throughout Europe for the rest of the month, with the bulk of each show built around fan requests made online.
